Tradition's hand embroidered crewel fabrics

are perfect for upholstery, curtains and cushions. Embroidered on cotton, velvet or linen in wool thread by specialist artisan communities in Kashmir, India that we aim to assist in sustaining this beautiful craft.

Our crewel designs are available by the metre in some designs or as ready-made curtains. The curtains are 280cm long per drop, lined and with a rod pocket and hook tape for easy installation. Embroidery can be done especially to order if you have a particular colour palette in mind.

While Tradition Textiles collection of cushions are all hand embroidered using hook work the designs vary from traditional to retro. Kashmiri hook work embroidery is either called crewel or chain stitch depending upon the coverage of the design. Our crewel cushions are in floral designs on linen in neutral tones while the chain stitch cushions are available in two different ranges. There are the traditional designs based on tribal rug patterns with leather backs and the new retro range with bright geometric designs. These are feather-filled to give extra comfort.
